Background and/or Objectives: Access to data for evidence-based clinical decision making can be limited for rare diagnoses and heterogeneous populations, particularly in pediatric populations. Our multidisciplinary spasticity clinic cares for children receiving selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) surgery to treat muscle spasticity, with standardized measures collected pre and postoperatively, resulting in a repository of data in the electronic health record (EHR). We aimed to develop a clinical dashboard allowing clinicians to rapidly analyze prior outcomes and support precise and data driven clinical decision making in the clinic setting.

Design: Previously collected cohort data was evaluated retrospectively to test the ability to accurately identify and analyze outcome data stored in the EHR within an approved secure dashboard to maintain patient privacy while allowing treating physicians to review results during clinical decision making discussions.

Setting : Academic medical center

Participants : Previously collected data on patients ages 3-18 who received SDR between 2019 and 2025

Interventions: Not applicable

Main Outcome Measures: Modified Ashworth Scale, Barry Albright Dystonia Scale, 10 meter walk test, GMFM-66, PedsQL (parent report, CP module), CP-CHILD, MACS, PT Balance scale.

Results: Using a combination of CPT code, flowsheet ID, treating clinician, and encounter number in the EHR, patient data was able to be accurately pulled into a dashboard and verified against a known list of cases. A dashboard was configured to display pre and post operative measures and allow physician to select desired comparisons. A total of 231 patients were identified who underwent SDR and had preoperative measures completed. The 63% of patients with completed post-operative assessments were used in validation and dashboard testing, allowing generation of analysis of post-operative outcomes.

Conclusions: Using existing EHR capabilities it is possible to develop a secure dashboard that allows physicians to identify and analyze patient outcome data that can be used by treating clinicians to assist in real-time clinical decision making and facilitate data analysis.
