Daniel Shinchuk is a student-researcher at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Harvard Medical School, passionate about advancing the understanding of sports injuries in both able-bodied and para-athletes to improve safety and health outcomes for fencers at all levels. His work has focused on concussion in fencing, the epidemiology of fencing-related injuries among both able-bodied and parafencers, and the integration of adaptive sports, particularly at the collegiate level.
Beyond research, Daniel is an accomplished men’s saber fencer, competing nationally at Junior Olympics, National Championships, and North American Cups, and earning All-Academic First Team and All-American Second Team honors from USA Fencing. He was selected as a fellow for the USA Fencing Leadership Academy 2025–26 cohort and is also a certified referee. He combines his competitive experience with advocacy, working to grow parafencing and integrate adaptive sports into mainstream athletic programs.
