John Macaulay is a fourth year medical student at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans applying to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the current match cycle. He completed his Bachelor of Science in 2020 at the University of California, Irvine in Biology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. John is the current Research Chair for the AAP Medical Student Council and the AAPM&R Medical Student Ambassador for LSUHSC. John previously served as the president of the PM&R interest group and the vice president of Medicine in Motion at LSUHSC.
John was one of eight medical students selected by the AAP to participate in their Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students program. He worked in the Gait Rehabilitation and Motor Learning Lab at the University of Southern California where he completed an eight-week summer project investigating a novel paradigm to reduce gait asymmetry in older adults post-stroke under the guidance of Dr. Kristan Leech (PT, DPT, PhD). John currently works as a research intern for the Philippine American Physiatrist Association investigating culturally tailored resources for Filipino Americans post-stroke.
