Rush Medical College of Rush University Medical Center
Alvyn Gonzalo Hernandez Reyes is a fourth-year medical student at Rush Medical College with a strong interest in pediatric rehabilitation and adaptive sports medicine. He served as President of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) for his local chapter, leading initiatives to strengthen mentorship and support the West Side of Chicago through volunteer efforts such as free healthcare clinics and having staff available for the local food pantry. He also brought the VII Annual Medical Organization for Latino Advancement (MOLA) Health Symposium to Rush Medical College, marking the first time a Latine-focused program was hosted at the institution and highlighting the importance of culturally competent care. Through rotations at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Chicago and volunteer work in adaptive sports and sports medicine through the Chicago Fellowship Program, he has combined his Spanish fluency with a commitment to serving diverse communities. His research on disparities in pain management and opioid prescribing reflects his dedication to addressing healthcare inequities, and he aspires to a career in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation that integrates clinical care, advocacy, and community engagement.
