Dr. Matthew J. Pingree is a board-certified specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. He currently serves as Director of Outpatient Medicine and Pain Medicine Ultrasound at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He holds dual academic appointments as Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Division of Pain Medicine within the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.
Dr. Pingree earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1999. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic, followed by fellowships in Clinical Neurophysiology and Pain Medicine. His clinical expertise includes spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, radiofrequency ablation, and ultrasound-guided injections.
Known for his compassionate care and collaborative leadership, Dr. Pingree has played a pivotal role in advancing interventional pain management. He is actively involved in research and education, contributing to national conferences such as AAPM&R and ASRA. His work has earned recognition including the President’s Choice Award and the Teacher of the Year Award from the Division of Pain Medicine.
Dr. Pingree is also a certified graduate of Mayo Clinic’s Executive Education program in AI Foundations and Applications for Emerging Digital Healthcare Leaders. He is a dedicated mentor, frequently supporting advanced practice providers and colleagues through recommendation letters and professional development.
