He treats patients with orthopedic and sports-related injuries using nonsurgical approaches such as physical therapy, therapeutic exercise, injections (steroid, hyaluronate, PRP), and nutrition-based strategies. His goal is to support healing, improve biomechanics, and restore function.
Dr. Vitale commonly manages conditions like tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, meniscal and labral tears, rotator cuff injuries, and ligament sprains. He collaborates closely with UC San Diego Health’s athletic trainers to help athletes—including cyclists, swimmers, martial artists, and triathletes—return to sport safely.
As a professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine, he teaches medical students, residents, and fellows in lifestyle medicine, exercise science, and public health. His interests include musculoskeletal ultrasound, PRP, and sports nutrition.
Dr. Vitale earned his medical degree and completed residency training at NYU School of Medicine and NYU Langone Health’s Rusk Institute. He previously served as an assistant professor at NYU and cared for patients in New York City. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation with subspecialty certification in sports medicine.
