Matthew Oswald, MD is an attending physician at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and an assistant professor in the department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Oswald is actively involved in clinical care as well as education of residents and medical students. His inpatient and outpatient practices focus on rehabilitation management following medically complex conditions — organ transplantation, cardiac surgery, LVAD placement, and a variety of other General Rehabilitation areas including orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions. His research projects and collaborations span his areas of clinical involvement.
Dr. Oswald earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Illinois Wesleyan University and a doctor of medicine degree from Northwestern University. He completed his residency in PM&R through the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University/ Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. He has been board-certified in PM&R since 2011.
As Shirley Ryan AbilityLab’s associate chief medical officer, he focuses on regulatory and compliance activities across the continuum of care —inpatient, DayRehab and outpatient. Key responsibilities include oversight of Joint Commission and CARF medical staff performance expectations, clinical policies, and medical staff credentialing and privileging processes.
