General Surgery Resident Physician, Surgical Equity Fellow

Dr. Angel Rosario Jr, MD, MPH, is a General Surgery Resident at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and the inaugural Surgical Equity Fellow within the Department of Surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco and his Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health as a Zuckerman Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership.
Dr. Rosario’s work focuses on surgical equity, cultural humility, and addressing disparities in access to surgical care. He co-leads Columbia’s chapter of Socially Responsible Surgery, directs the Race and Health curriculum, and develops community-based participatory research projects centered on Latino/a/x communities in New York City, particularly Washington Heights and the Bronx. His research integrates mixed-methods and AI-based simulation to improve cultural dexterity among surgical trainees.
Beyond his academic work, Dr. Rosario is the founder of the Curandero Collective, a grassroots initiative bringing health education and wellness programming to historically marginalized communities. He is deeply committed to mentorship and pathway programs for first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students pursuing careers in medicine.
