Medical Student
Western University of Health Sciences
I’m Amber Peterson, a 4th-year medical student at Western University in Pomona, California. I’m applying to PM&R residency and enjoy exploring ways to optimize functional recovery, whether through research, patient care, or adaptive sports programs. I have been involved in adaptive sports programs since high school, coaching and supporting athletes with disabilities, which has fueled my passion for rehabilitation. Through my clinical experiences, I have worked with patients recovering from brain and spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular disorders, and chronic pain, gaining insight into the challenges and rewards of helping individuals regain independence. In addition to exploring the functional sequelae of complex cases such as neurosyphilis, I am also engaged in research on pressure ulcer prevention in patients with limited mobility, which has strengthened my interest in evidence-based approaches to improving quality of life. I look forward to contributing to the PM&R community, learning from experts, and continuing to advocate for and empower patients as they navigate their recovery journeys.
