Resident Physician, PGY-3
Charles Drew University
Eric Poole, MD, MS, is one of the inaugural resident physicians in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at Charles R. Drew University. He brings a strong academic foundation to his clinical work, having earned his Doctor of Medicine from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine ’23, a Master of Science from Wayne State University in Basic Medical Sciences ’16, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in Kinesiology ’12. He is currently pursuing a Master of Health Administration at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, with anticipated graduation in Spring 2026.
Dr. Poole’s clinical interests include chronic and interventional pain medicine, spinal cord injury, nonoperative pediatric orthopedics, and addressing barriers to care in underserved communities. His background as a firefighter and paramedic, combined with his personal experience living with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, shapes his patient-centered approach to care.
A strong advocate for health equity and systems-level reform, Dr. Poole is deeply committed to translating health policy into meaningful, equitable healthcare delivery. As a graduate of multiple pathway programs, he understands the transformative power of representation and mentorship. He remains dedicated to creating opportunities for early exposure to STEM and medicine—grounded in the belief that “it’s hard to be what you don’t see.” Outside of medicine, he enjoys cycling, traveling, reading, collecting sneakers, spending time with his three dogs, and relaxing on the beach.
