Medical Student
Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Danyal Tahseen is a 4th year medical student with strong interests in academic physiatry, including brain injury, pediatric rehab, and cancer rehab. Danyal authored a children's book collection ("Adapting to Adventure") about disability resilience and founded the first national PM&R student research symposium with a novel scholarly skill-building model. With 21 publications spanning rehabilitation medicine, public health, and medical innovation, he serves on two journal editorial boards and champions accessible healthcare through curriculum design and community initiatives.
As a former special education assistant teacher turned medical student, Danyal brings a unique perspective to patient care and medical education. He has successfully advocated for disability-centered curriculum changes at his medical school (including creating a pediatric cancer rehab teaching module), organized health navigation workshops for LGBTQ+ youth, and established a donation drive for assistive medical equipment. His research focuses on pediatric disabilities, educational equity, and new technologies in SCI care. He approaches each opportunity as an enthusiastic learner interested in advancing the field.
Completing medical school while maintaining active roles in national organizations, Danyal continues to bridge the gap between academic medicine and community needs. His hobbies include Pilates, kayaking, LEGO plants (no maintenance!), and off-key carpool karaoke.
